i know that most of us are thrilled that the sun is shining and the weather is warming up…but, we do need to take precautions against harmful UVA and UVB rays. remember to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen (it should say “broad spectrum” right on the packaging) at all times! i usually wear SPF 30 on my face and body, but i will put SPF 50 on my nose, shoulders and chest for extra protection.
even in the winter months, i always have SPF 15 on my face. just don’t count on your makeup that has SPF to protect you from both UVA and UVB rays if it doesn’t specify “broad spectrum.”
three facts about skin cancer that you should know
- skin cancer and melanoma account for about 50% of all types of cancers diagnosed
- more than 90% of skin cancer is caused by excessive exposure to the sun
- each hour, 1 person dies from skin cancer
protect yourself and spread the word! use sunscreen and keep reapplying. it’s that simple!

this link is to a site called skin deep. it is a cosmetics and personal care safety database. basically, you can type in any brand of makeup, skincare line, etc. and skin deep will give it a safety rating from 1-10. (the lower the number, the safer the product). if they don’t happen to have what you are looking for, you can add a product and they will rate it for you. many thanks to melissa h. for finding this website and sharing with me. if the fda isn’t going to protect us from potentially harmful ingredients in our personal care products, hopefully the environmental working group will! xo

i decided to add on a blog to my website, because i have a lot to say about makeup and skincare. i will be sharing some of my favorite makeup tips and tricks and new product reviews. please ask questions, share your ideas, and comment as much as you’d like.
